Hello
again
I
am not a runner.
It
sounded like a good idea - and Anita promised it
would be fun - so I signed up for a 10 km run. I
have not run since high school but it seemed like
a good training opportunity when the skiing ended
and before the biking really began. Anita was
persistent in getting us out a couple of times a
week and the energy grew - as well as the running
group.
The
run was in support of Camp Oochigeas, a summer
camp in Muskoka for kids with cancer.
So
I lined up yesterday (without my morning coffee!!!
GREG!!!) with 14,000 others at the Sporting Life
store north of Yonge and Eglinton. Yellow jerseys
as far as you could see. (Check out the photo.) By
the time we started yesterday, our group had
expanded to a number of the Raithby family, too. I
did enjoy the company of my sister most of the way
down Yonge Street. We all ran down Yonge Street,
past the upscale sections north of Bloor and the
seedy sections south of Bloor, past Dundas Square
and up Richmond, past Gretzky's and finally into
Old Fort York.
All
in all, $800,000 was raised.
I
am still not a runner . . . but I'd do it again.
Four
weeks this Friday until Russ and I are putting on
our movie night at the Rene Caisse Theatre in
support of the Ride to Conquer Cancer, the Three
Rivers Project and Cameron Helps. For more
information on these charities, please go to the Links
page. Mark that night on the calendar.
More information soon on this event.
Now
it is time to get back on the bike. I see that Kai
Slaughter has now raised $2,500 for next month's
Ride to Conquer Cancer. Way to go, Kai!
Cheers,
David
